Have you ever been depressed before?,are you feeling like
the whole world is coming down on you?,well take a deep breath, relax and read
this article, because you are not the only one that have had such experience.
Well, In my article today,I would enlighten you more about
this concept called ‘depression’.
A lot of people have
had to battle with depression.the most likely causes might be as a result of
the difficulties you are facing,it might also be as a result of sleep-
loss,sickness, negative self-image ,self-pity,faulty reasoning and finally
conflict with people and broken relationships which are often the
largest causes of depression.
Even the great Abraham Lincoln said:
“I am now the most miserable man living if what I feel were
equally distributed to the whole human family, there would not be a cheerful
face on the earth. Whether I shall even be better,I cannot tell; I awfully
forebode I shall not. To remain as I am is impossible. I must die or be better,
it appears to me”.
Proverbs 18:14 also says: the spirit of man can endure his
sickness, but a broken spirit who can bear?
Depression is a state of unhappiness.it carries a sense of
hopelessness.there seems to be no way out of the difficulties you face.this
despair gives rise to a loss of perspective, feelings of apathy, and the desire
to withdraw from people and from life in general.
With depression comes oversensitivity. The individual
misinterprets the motivations of others
and thinks that people are out to do him harm. Depressed people often lose
their self-esteem and become hurt and angry.they cover a host of emotions with
the great masquerade of depression
Depression is not a cause.it is a result.some situations or
some individuals brings about depression. It is not a disease or a disorder of
the brain.it is the result of how we view life.it is a way of thinking and
behaving.
Usually certain conversation or event triggers depressive
thoughts.depressive thoughts are a product of hurt,loss,guilt, and anger.when
the thoughts are not worked through, dealt with, and reconciled, they can cause
strong mood changes which can lead to depression.
For example, some people have down feelings at certain times
of the year. You may feel depressed in a
certain month of the year for no just
cause.but if you think harder, you might recall that at that particular
month, you might have had a very hurtful experience sometime in the past.
Well, the good news is that it is quite common for this to
happen. We never truly forget all our experiences in life. They often come back
from our memory to haunt us or give us
trouble and they usually come at the most inopportune time. What do you do with
all those old memories…. Those ghosts from the past? You make friends with
them. You acknowledge that they are there. You own them. They are yours. But at
the same time you must make peace with them. You use them as stepping stones of
growth that remind you of things you shouldn’t do in the future.they are
experiences that you can share with others so that they can be spared similar
hurt.
When you face the reality of the experiences, accept the
truth of your hurt and anger, make peace with what you cannot change, the memory remains but the
pain goes away.
